Privacy Policy

Effective 15 July 2026 · Version 2026-07-15

This policy explains how StarDate handles personal data when you visit the website, join the waitlist or use the dating service. It also explains your choices and rights.

1. Who is responsible for your data?

The data controller is Mikael Folkesson, sole trader (enskild firma), Gothenburg, Sweden, operating StarDate.

Privacy contact: hello@stardate.online

2. Data we collect

  • Waitlist: email address, referral code and relationships, referral count, signup time, the privacy-notice version shown, and any optional marketing consent.
  • Account and profile: login identifiers, email, display name, age and birth details, location, gender and matching preferences, biography and settings.
  • Astrology and matching: calculated birth-chart data, compatibility scores, preferences, likes, blocks, matches and related activity.
  • Content and safety: profile photos, messages, reports, appeals and moderation records. Photos are checked for safety and a clear single face. AI may suggest only non-sensitive visible attributes for you to confirm.
  • Payments: subscription and transaction references from Stripe. StarDate does not store full payment-card details.
  • Technical data: service logs, IP address, browser/device information, security events and necessary local-storage values such as your waitlist referral code.

StarDate does not infer race, ethnicity, religion, health or sexual orientation from photos. Sensitive profile information is self-declared and requires explicit consent where applicable.

3. Why we use data and our legal bases

  • Requested service and contract: operate the waitlist, send confirmation/referral and launch updates, create and manage accounts, calculate matches, deliver messages and subscriptions.
  • Consent: send optional news, offers and other marketing, and process any special-category profile information you choose to provide. Consent can be withdrawn at any time.
  • Legitimate interests: secure and improve the service, prevent fraud and abuse, moderate content, enforce rules and protect members and legal claims, balanced against your rights.
  • Legal obligations: meet accounting, consumer-protection, law-enforcement and other applicable requirements.

4. Waitlist and marketing

Joining the waitlist asks StarDate to save your email and send messages necessary for the waitlist, referrals and launch. Other product news, offers and marketing are optional and use a separate, unchecked consent choice. Declining marketing does not affect your waitlist place.

You may withdraw marketing consent using the unsubscribe option in a marketing email or by contacting us. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal.

5. Who receives data?

We use vetted providers only where needed to run StarDate. These currently include Supabase (database, authentication, storage and server functions), Vercel (website hosting and analytics), Resend (email), Stripe (payments), AWS Rekognition (photo safety/face checks), OpenAI (limited AI features and non-sensitive photo suggestions), and geocoding/map providers. They process data under their own terms and, where applicable, data-processing agreements.

Data may be processed outside the EU/EEA. Where required, transfers rely on an adequacy decision, standard contractual clauses or another lawful safeguard. We may also disclose data when required by law or necessary to protect members and the service.

6. How long we keep data

  • Waitlist: deleted automatically after 12 months, or earlier if you ask us to remove it.
  • Active accounts: kept while your account is active. A deletion request deactivates the account immediately and erases account data within 30 days.
  • Safety and legal records: may be kept only as long as needed to handle reports, prevent abuse, comply with law or establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
  • Billing and tax records: kept for the period required by applicable accounting and tax law.
  • Logs and backups: kept for limited operational, security and recovery periods before deletion or overwrite.

7. Your rights and deletion

Depending on the circumstances, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or object to processing. You may withdraw consent at any time and object to direct marketing at any time.

Registered members can sign in, open Settings, and choose “Delete my account”. If you only joined the waitlist, email us from the address you used at hello@stardate.online. We may request only the information reasonably needed to verify the request.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY) at imy.se.

8. Automated processing and AI

StarDate calculates astrology-based compatibility and may rank potential matches. These are recommendations for entertainment and dating discovery; they do not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects. The private match coach receives limited, derived match data according to your tier and does not receive your human chat conversation or raw birth details.

9. Security, age and policy changes

We use access controls, row-level database security, encryption in transit, restricted server credentials and data minimisation. No online service can guarantee absolute security.

StarDate is for adults aged 18 or older. We do not knowingly offer the service to children.

We may update this policy as StarDate changes. Material changes will be communicated where appropriate, and the current version and effective date will remain available on this page.
